
Spiders Drop Close Match with Georgetown, 4-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team made its season debut on the Westhampton Courts this afternoon, narrowly falling to visiting Georgetown, 4-1.
The Hoyas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, clinching the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3. Emily Dunbar and Ana Ramirez held a 5-4 lead on court 2.
Things looked promising in singles action, as Dunbar cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Risa Nakagawa at No. 1, but Georgetown would bounce back with two-straight wins to take a 3-1 lead.
It came down to the final three courts, as Kiana Marshall, Ramirez and Gaby Rosales battled on courts 2, 4 and 5, respectively.
Ramirez narrowly dropped her first set, 7-6 (3), and was unable to overcome Daphne de Chatellus I the second set, falling 6-3. Marshall held a 5-4 lead in her third set and Rosales trailed by the same score in her final set, but neither matches were finished.
The Spiders return to action on Friday, March 30, when they host Duquesne in the first match of a Spider Tennis double header. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
