Spiders Top George Mason, 5-1 in Series Finale

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Spiders topped George Mason in Atlantic 10 play, 5-1, Sunday afternoon.
Richmond grabbed a 1-0 lead after Daniel Brumbaugh led off the fourth with a single to right. He crossed the dish thanks to a Patriot miscue. Behind Vinny Capra's bases clearing double the Spiders extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh. An RBI single from Michael Strait allowed Richmond to tack on a run in the eighth to take a 4-0 advantage.
Mason avoided the shutout with a run in the home half of the eighth, but the Spiders would continue to add to their lead to preserve the Sunday victory. In the ninth, Brumbaugh drew abases loaded walk to bring in D.J. Lee and make it a 5-1 ball game.
Layne Looney shut down the game sending the Patriots down in order in the bottom of the ninth including two strikeouts.
Richmond is scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, April 3 as they welcome #19 Duke to Pitt Field. That game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
