UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spiders fell in midweek action to #14 Duke, 13-2 at Pitt Field on Tuesday evening.
Duke (25-5) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first, but Kyle Adams sent the ball over the wall in right to cut the Blue Devils' lead to one, 2-1 in the home half of the inning.
The Spiders (16-12) threatened in the second as they loaded the bases, but Duke's starter Bryce Jarvis got out of the jam. With a pair of two-run homers in the third, Duke took a 6-1 advantage. In the fourth, the Blue Devils tacked on three runs to go ahead 9-1.
Richmond continued to battle looking for opportunities to chip away at Duke's lead, but the Blue Devil staff continued to stifle any chance. Behind a leadoff homer in the top of the seventh, Duke went up 10-1. The Blue Devils tacked on three more in the top of eighth to go up 13-1 before Adams' sac fly brought home Vinny Capra to make it 13-2.
Richmond is set to be back in action for a three-game set with Marist this weekend. The series begins on Friday, April 6 at 3PM.
