Goodman Earns Second SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Award

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly awards Tuesday afternoon and for the second time this season, Richmond goalkeeper Blake Goodman has been named the Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore helped guide the Spiders to an 8-6 victory over Bellarmine at Robins Stadium this weekend.

The Pittsburgh, Pa. native has been outstanding all season long and continued that trend against the Knights on Saturday afternoon. He made nine saves against 15 shots on goal to lead the Spider defense that allowed a season-low opponent goal tally.

Goodman has started all 11 games in goal for the Spiders, totaling 658 minutes of action during which he has made 102 saves against 385 shots faced. His goals-against average (10.39) ranks fifth on the SoCon and his save percentage (.472) ranks sixth.

The Spiders will welcome Jacksonville to Robins Stadium on Saturday, April 14 for a Noon start. Both programs are currently part of a four-way tie for first place in the SoCon standings at 3-1. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the SoCon Championship at Robins Stadium in May.
