
Spiders Advance to A-10 Quarterfinals with 4-0 Win Over Rhode Island

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond women's tennis took an early 1-0 lead and followed that up with a dominant performance in singles to post a 4-0 win over Rhode Island in the first round of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Spiders jumped out to a quick lead with a pair of 6-1 doubles wins. Lea Owens and Dessi Zlateva downed Nicole Legler and Paige Alshon on court 3, before Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall clinched the point over Mihaela Codreanu and Ariel Haber.
Rhode Island looked to make a comeback in singles play, but the Spiders used three two-set wins to take the match. Ana Ramirez started things off with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court 6 over Alshon just before Gaby Rosales downed Legler at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0.
Dunbar clinched the match for Richmond with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rachel Smilansky on court 1.
The Spiders will have a day off before they return to action on Friday for the quarterfinal round against No. 4 seed Duquesne. Match time at the USTA National Campus in Orlando is set for 3 p.m.
