ORLANDO, Fla. – One of the great careers in Richmond men's golf program history came to a close on Sunday afternoon as Matthew Lowe tapped in his last putt as a Spider at the end of the final round of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship.
Â
The senior posted a final round score of +2, 74 to finish the tournament at six over-par and in a tie for fifth overall. At the time of his final putt, Lowe was the clubhouse leader for a time but some strong finishes forced him settle for that tie for fifth. Lowe, during his final round bagged four birdies to lead his team to a fifth-place finish in the team event.
Â
Lowe's career, highlighted by an individual NCAA Regional appearance in 2016 and a team NCAA Regional appearance in 2017, certainly ranks among the elite in program history. By earning All-Conference recognition at the conclusion of this week's event, Lowe became a four-time All-Conference honoree to go with his 2015 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year nod. By posting a final round 74 on Sunday, Lowe also secured the program record for the lowest individual career stroke average (73.43), knocking off Ken Macdonald who had held the mark since 2000.
Â
Joining Lowe near the top of the leaderboard was Andrew Sciarretta who closed strong with a +1, 73 to rise into a tie for 11th overall. Freshman Andrew McInerney fired the first under par round (-1, 71) of his career to close out his debut campaign in a tie for 24th while Zack Justice and Ben Wanichek both closed with +5, 77's.
