04/08/2018 | Women's Lacrosse
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team (10-2, 4-0 A-10) put on a show for the hometown fans on Sunday afternoon, burying George Washington (9-3, 2-2 A-10), 14-3, to remain unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play.
Â
The Spiders jumped ahead early with three goals in the first minute and a half and never looked back. Katie Sciandra each of the firs two Spider goals of the afternoon; her 44th and 45th of the season then ceded the scoring to her teammates the rest of the way. Marissa Brown added a hat trick to go with three assists while Kim Egizi tossed in a pair of scores to go with two assists. Madison Ostrick, Mia Castagnero and Aly Fries all contributed two goals while Katie Trainer came up with one.
Before the clock crossed the 20-minute threshold in the first half, the Spiders had already built a 5-1 lead with Egizi notching her 39th of the season at the 20:51 mark. Her score was the second of four unanswered that helped Richmond to a 7-1 lead by the time GW scored its second goal with 8:24 left in the half.
All three George Washington goals came in that first half. Three opponent goals is the second-lowest output by a Richmond opponent this season and the lowest by an A-10 foe so far.
Richmond closed the first half with a 10-3 lead never took its foot off the gas. Aly Fries wasted little time getting the scoring started in the second half with her ninth of the season at the 22:47 mark. Madison Ostrick scored her second of the game at 15:59 to make it 12-3 and Egizi got the running clock started with goal number 40 on the season at 14:37.
Later on, Castagnero added one more for good measure to complete the scoring in this one in an impressive victory for the Spiders. Richmond now turns its attention to Davidson. The Spiders will travel there on Apr. 13 for a 6 p.m. start before returning to Robins Stadium for three-straight beginning Apr. 15 with George Mason.
