UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's basketball head coach Michael Shafer announced on Tuesday the addition of Jayana Ervin, an NJCAA II All-American, to the roster for the upcoming season.
Â
Ervin, a Tacoma, Washington native, stands at 5'8 and comes to Richmond having scored 781 points in just two seasons at Harcum College (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) where she was named the Region XIX Player of the Year last season before leading her team to a Region XIX Championship and into the National Tournament.
Â
"Jayana is a versatile guard who has experienced a lot of success at Harcum," head coach Michael Shafer said. "She has developed into a very good guard, who is physical and a great defender. Her ability to get into the paint and score will be an asset to our team this upcoming season. Her defensive prowess will also be much needed after losing Kylie Murphree and Micaela Parson. She plays well in space and the open court and is also a leader, strengthened by taking part of the student government at Harcum. We look forward to her two years at Richmond."
Â
She led all of NJCAA II in steals as a freshman, pulled down 332 rebounds and handed out 181 assists over her two seasons. Her 253 steals rank second all-time in Harcum College history and all 781 points in her career have come without knocking down a single three-point shot. During her sophomore campaign she averaged 14.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 54.9 percent from the floor.
