Exciting Season Comes to A Close in A-10 Tournament
05/25/2018 | Baseball
ARLINGTON, Va. –After an exciting season, the Spider Baseball team just came up short against George Washington, 5-4 in the 2018 Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The Spiders finished the season 32-24, the 32 wins marks the most since 2007.
Much like yesterday's redemption win, the Spiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Justin Cook and Daniel Brumbaugh drove in the two runs in the first inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Colonials responded, cutting Richmond's lead to one.
George Washington threatened with runners in scoring position in the second but Brendan McGuigan and the Spider defense got out of the jam. Tyler Plantier smashed a double down left field line to drive in Kyle Schmidt and give Richmond a 3-1 advantage.
The Colonials struck again in the sixth thanks to a solo homer from Dominic D'Alessandro to cut the deficit to one, 3-2. Richmond responded in the next frame as Anthony Forte led off the inning with a double that narrowly missed going over the wall in left center. An RBI single from Lee drove in Forte to give Richmond a 4-2 advantage. The Spiders put two more runners on as they looked to add to their lead, but a groundout ended the inning.
Behind a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, GW took its first lead of the game, 5-4. Unfortunately, the Spiders were unable to regain their lead and the season came to an end.
