Four Spiders Earn All-State Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team topped off an A-10 Championship season with another honor, as four Spiders were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Teams.

A-10 Players of the Year and IWLCA All-Region honorees Kim Egizi and Julie Ball were named to the All-State First Team, while fellow All-Conference First Team members Megan Gianforte and Katie Sciandra earned All-State Second Team honors.

The 2018 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and an All-South Region Second Team honoree, Egizi tops off an outstanding career with her fourth All-State accolade. The senior had another standout year, breaking the program record for single-season points with 97, and tied the program record with 11 single-game points. Egizi was named the A-10 Tournament MVP after scoring the game-winner to send the Spiders to their first NCAA appearance since 2007, and finished her career with 100 assists, 267 points and 247 draw controls, all good for second in program history, as well as 167 goals, good for fifth.
Ball had a breakout season, leading the No. 8 defensive unit in the nation and earning A-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Junior earned All-South Region Second Team honors for her efforts, and finished the season ranked fifth in the nation with 2.60 caused turnovers per game. Her 52 caused turnovers on the year set a new program record, while her 48 ground balls and 64 draw control wins were both good for third on the team.

Sciandra also had a breakout year as the Spiders' leading goal scorer with a program record 67 goals. The junior earned First Team All-Conference honors in her second season with the Spiders, and set a new single-game scoring record with nine goals over VCU. Sciandra finished season in first nationally in free position goals per game (1.89), 16th in goals (67) and 17th in goals per game (3.53).

Gianforte earns her second All-State honor after another successful season in cage for the Spiders. The sophomore earned First Team All-Conference honors for the season-straight year, while also earning A-10 All-Tournament honors after a 14-save performance in the A-10 title game. Ginaforte finished season ranked 11th nationally in goal allowed average (9.46) and 19th in save percentage (.485).
