Spiders Post Strong Showing At Spider Alumni Open

Mechanicsville, Va. - A hot and humid morning didn't stop the Spiders cross country team from having a strong showing in their first meet of the season on the A-10 Championship course.
The men's 5K race started at 9:15am and the men were strong out of the gate. Junior Miles Clikeman took second with time of 15:10.0 with freshman Peter Borger (15:41.2) and senior Johnny Hogue (15.46.2) behind him taking eighth and tenth respectively to round out top three Richmond finishers.
The gun for the women's two mile race sounded at 9:50am and the women quickly settled into a strong group at the front alongside runners from William & Mary and George Mason. Senior Colleen Carney won the race with a time of 10:59.2, followed by junior Ave Grosenheider (11:27.2) in fifth place, junior Peyton McGovern (11:31.8), senior Amanda Corbosiero (11:32.1), and junior Claire Brown (11:33.7) taking eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. Overall, five Spiders finished in the top 10.
The Spiders cross country team will be in Charlottesville on September 14th for the Virginia Invitational at Panorama Farms.
