Spiders with Top Finishes at Delaware Invitational
09/15/2018 | Cross Country
After expecting not to run this weekend due to Hurricane Florence, the Spider cross country team seized their opportunity to run at the University of Delaware Invitational and dominated the competition with the women taking seven of the top ten spots and the men taking eight of the top ten.Â
The women's event got started at 9:30AM and the Spiders were off to the races. Senior Colleen Carney cinched another win clocking in a time of 22:34.9 on the 6K course. Carney led fellow senior Amanda Corbosiero (22:49.0), junior Ave Grosenheider (22:58.9) and senior Courtney Thompson (23:17.5) to take four of the top five finishes. Senior Jordan Angers (23:40.9), junior Erika Echternach (23:57.9) and sophomore Caroline Robelen (24:15.5) rounded out the top ten Spider finishes in seventh, ninth and tenth respectively.Â
The men were not to be outdone. Junior Miles Clikeman was also coming off of a strong performance at the Spider Alumni Open coming in second last weekend. Clikeman clocked a time of 26:48.6 on the 8K course finishing first ahead of his teammate freshman Peter Borger who crossed the line less than two seconds behind him at 26:50.0. Senior Johnny Hogue and sophomore Paul Knepple rounded out the top five taking third and fourth with times of 27:01.1 and 27:15.1 respectively. Sophomore Trey Burleson (27:50.3), Patrick Sutphin (27.56.2), junior William Alpaugh (28:06.6) and freshman Noah Campbell (28:11.5) took places sixth through ninth to round out the men's top ten.
Such strong performances from both the men's and the women's team sets the Spiders up for their next meet at the Paul Short Invitational on September 29th in Bethlehem, Pa. at Lehigh.Â
