Spiders Finish Second At Kingsmill Intercollegiate

Total Score of 892 (+28) Is One Shot Behind Marshall
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Richmond's women's golf team combined for an 18-hole score of 306 (+18) on a stretched-out River Course at the Kingsmill Resort on Monday to earn a second-place finish at the season-opening Kingsmill Intercollegiate. The Spiders total score of 892 (+28) -- their lowest since last fall's Boston College Intercollegiate (887, +23) -- was one shot behind tournament champion Marshall.
"It's good to have that happen early in the season," said head coach Ali Wright about Marshall's one-shot margin of victory. "In our first team meetings we talk about how much of a difference one shot can make. So when we're practicing throughout the year they're definitely going to remember this when we're clawing and grinding to get one shot better."
Senior Sophie DiPetrillo finished in third place on the individual leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 217 (+1), tying the lowest tournament score of her career and matching the fourth-lowest tournament total in program history.
Two other Spiders finished in the top 15, with sophomore Lizzie Reedy finishing tied for 11th at 223 (+7) and Annie Collom finishing tied for 14th at 225 (+9). In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Emily Ward finished tied for 23rd at 230 (+14) after carding a 76 (+4) on Sunday, the second-lowest score of any Spider.
"This team is the best team that I've ever been a part of," said DiPetrillo. "Everyone is a good golfer and I know that I can rely on every single person on this team to carry me if I need it."
Richmond will return to action in two weeks at the Boston College Intercollegiate. The Spiders are the defending champions at the event, winning last year's title with a score of 887 (+23).
