Football Places Three On VaSID All-State Team

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond football team placed three members on the 2018 Virginia Sports Information Directors University Division All-State Football Team as junior defensive lineman Maurice Jackson (Levittown, Pa.) and senior offensive lineman John Yarbrough (Homewood, Ala.) earned First Team All-State honors while senior defensive lineman Andrew Clyde (Dallas, Texas) picked up Second Team All-State accolades. The VaSID All-State team is comprised of members from NCAA Division I FCS and FBS programs in the state of Virginia.
Jackson helped form the most sack productive defensive line in all of the Colonial Athletic Association, out-sacking every other line in the league by at least five full sacks. He led the way with a career-high 10.0 sacks on the season, leading the CAA in sacks and ranking sixth in NCAA FCS Football in sacks. He also led the conference in tackles for loss with 15.0 and in forced fumbles with four. He earned All-America honors for his efforts on the season from multiple publications.
Jackson, who came to Richmond as a safety, is playing his first full season as a defensive end for the Spiders ranks seventh in the country in forced fumbles. He was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week for the final game of the regular season and earns his first career All-Conference honor this year. He did this while playing in just 10 games this season, missing a game and a half due to injury.
Yarbrough was named to the First Team All-State offensive line. He picked up Second Team All-CAA honors, marking the second-straight year he has been recognized. He was named Third-Team All-CAA last year. This season, he was the jack of all trades for the Spiders, playing snaps at all five offensive line positions during the year and making starts at center, right guard and right tackle. He was part of the Richmond offensive line that ranked third in the CAA allowing only 21 sacks against. He started all 11 games on the year and finished his Spider career with 29-consecutive starts.
Clyde rounded out the Spiders' selections with a Second Team All-State accolade. He earned his second-straight All-Conference accolade this year when he was named First Team All-CAA. The preseason All-America selection lived up to his hype with 6.5 sacks on the season, ranking seventh in the CAA. All 6.5 of his sacks came in league play as he led the CAA in sacks during conference play. He added two fumble recoveries on the season and finished his career second all-time in Richmond football history with 25.0 career sacks. Clyde played an started all 50 games of his career, never missing a start in his four years on the field.
