Women and Men Each Take Second at the Pirate Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Spider men's and women's cross country each earned a second place finish Friday evening in the Pirate Invitational, hosted by East Carolina University. The women finished with three in the top 16 performers, while the men had two finishers in the top 13.
The women ran the 6k in the first race of the evening and were led by freshman Kate Dickow (Lititz, Pa.). Dickow finished 11th, running a career-best 21:47.53. Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) was the next runner in. running at 21:49.09 for 12th. Johanna Lupica was the next Spider across the finish line, turning in a time of 21:57.12, good for 16th and nearly matching her PR.
Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) and Ave Grosenheider (Madison, Wis.) added top 30 finishes as Snow was 26th at 22:21.10 and Grosenheider was 30th at 22:25.00. Peyton McGovern (Methuen, Mass.) added a 35th place finish with a time of 22:39.02. Also competing in Friday's race were Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.), 49th, 22:58.20, Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.) at 63rd, 23:22.36, Erika Echternach (Lititz, Pa.) at 64th, 23:24.28, Caitlin O'Hare (Middletown, N.J.), 66th, 23:26.48, Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.) 69th, 23:28.85 and Kathryn Shea (Hartford, Conn.), 94th, 24:40.54,
Miles Clikeman (North Chesterfield, Va.) continues to pace the men's team, this time turning in a third-place finish in the 8k with a time of 24:16.40, a new personal best. Peter Borger (Malvern, Pa.) added a 13th place finish, running in 24:50.89.
Noah Campbell (Montpelier, Va.) finished just outside the top 20, coming in 22nd with a 25:15.97 time. Noah Yuro (Howell, N.J.) claimed the 31st spot, running in 25:27.44, a new personal best. Paul Knepple (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and James Flanagan (Danville, Calif.) added points, finishing 35th and 38th overall, running times of 25:30.22 and 25:33.78, respectively. Trey Burleson (Moseley, Va.) added a 45th place finish, running in 25:44.89.
Others competing in Friday's race included Jake Schindel (Richmond, Va.), 59th, 26:19.82, William Alpaugh (Bethlehem, Pa.), 70th, 26:36.80, Patrick Sutphin (Mechanicsville, Va.) 86th, 27:05.27, James Quinn (Nutley, N.J.) was 98th at 27:32.86 and Tanner Crochet (Monmouth, N.J.) at 112th in 28:20.94.
The Spiders are back in action in November as they'll head back to The Oatlands for the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship meet, hosted by George Mason.
