Men Take Seventh, Women Fourth at the A-10 Championships

LEESBURG, Va. – Richmond cross country competed at the Atlantic 10 Championship meet at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Saturday morning. The men were led by senior Miles Clikeman (North Chesterfield, Va.) who turned in a sixth-place individual finish as the team finished seventh. The women came in fourth as a team as freshman Kate Dickow (Lititz, Pa.) turned in the Spiders top finish at 16th. For his efforts, Clikeman received All-Atlantic 10 honors.
The men started the Championship competition first, running the 5-mile race at 10 a.m. Clikeman was the first Spider to cross the finish line, turning in a time of 25:21.3. Noah Yuro (Howell, N.J.) had a solid performance, finishing 18th at 25:58.8. Sophomore Peter Borger (Malvern, Pa.) added a 43rd-place finish, moving up four spots over the final three kilometers of the race, finishing in 26:31.7.
The other two Spiders to earn points on the men's side were junior Trey Burleson (Moseley, Va.) and sophomore Noah Campbell (Montpelier, Va.). Burleson finished in 49th, running in 26:37.4. Campbell fought until the end, passing a runner from Rhode Island down the stretch and finishing a half second faster than the Ram with his time of 26:51.2 to earn 58th.
The reigning Atlantic 10 Champions on the women's side, could not duplicate last season's success at Pole Green Park. Dickow was the first Spider to finish, coming in 16th with a time of 18:39.1. Another freshman in Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) ran well, finishing in 20th at 18:49.6.
Senior Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) added a 22nd place finish with a time of 18:50.6. Closing out the scoring on the women's side was freshman Anna George (Montville, N.J.) and sophomore Johanna Lupica (Richmond, Va.). George and Lupica finished in 28th and 29th with times of 19:01.1 and 19:01.7, respectively, to help the Spiders earn fourth as a team.
The La Salle Explorers were the conference champions on both the men's and women's side of the event. Rhode Island's Lotte Black was the individual winner of the women's 5k with a time of 17:38.8 with the rookie performer of the race going to La Salle's Jerika Lufrano. The men's individual champion was Zach Michon, a senior from Saint Joseph's with a time of 25:02.7. The male rookie performer went to La Salle's Alex Sandras who ran at 26:01.6.
