Nash Scores Twice As Spiders Take Down La Salle, 3-1
10/18/2019 | Field Hockey
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Addie Nash posted her first multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice to lead the University of Richmond field hockey team to a 3-1 Atlantic 10 win over La Salle on Friday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Â
The Spiders (8-6, 4-1 A-10) move ahead of the Explorers (6-8, 3-2 A-10) in the Atlantic 10 standings with the win, and have eclipsed their win total from the 2018 season with five regular-season games to play.
Â
After the Spiders took the game's first three shots and put on the early offensive pressure, it was the Explorers who struck first, scoring in the ninth minute off a tip in on their first penalty corner of the game.
Â
La Salle took the 1-0 lead into the second quarter, but the Spiders rebounded quickly, scoring twice in just over a minute to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Jessica Hendry tied the game with under a minute and a half to play in the period on her first goal of the season, sending a reverse shot past the La Salle goalkeeper. Nash then scored her first goal of the game 70 seconds later when she tipped in an initial shot from Elise Zwicklbauer.
Â
The Spiders continued their dominance in the second half, outshooting the Explorers 13-0 overall and 11-0 in the third quarter alone. Nash's second goal came just over three minutes into the third period, as she sent a reverse flick into the cage for the two-goal lead after a scrum in front of the net.
Â
Neither team managed to score in the final stanza, with the Spiders claiming a crucial win in conference play. Richmond finished with a 22-4 shot advantage, as well as a 6-2 edge in penalty corners.
Â
The Spiders continue home Atlantic 10 action when they take on two-time reigning conference champion and No. 12 ranked Saint Joseph's on Sunday, October 20. Game time at Crenshaw Field between the Spiders and Hawks is set for 12 p.m.
