Spiders Late Goal Not Enough In 2-1 Loss At Duquesne
10/03/2019 | Women's Soccer
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team scored a goal in the 88th minute but fell just short on the road at Duquesne, 2-1, Thursday night at Rooney Field.
Richmond (5-5-2, 2-2 A-10) made a late push cutting Duquesne's lead to 2-1 after junior TJ Anderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga.) scored her second goal of the season off a pass from freshman Jessie Prillaman (Magnolia, Del.).
In the final minute, the Spiders earned a corner kick but couldn't find a second goal to tie the game. Richmond finished with seven shots in the game and earned five corner kicks.
Redshirt freshman Claire Hinkle (Tipp City, Ohio) made a career-high nine saves in her first start as a Spider. Hinkle kept Richmond in the game with five key saves in the second half.
The Spiders went into halftime trailing 1-0 after an own goal in the 31st minute gave Duquesne the lead. Richmond finished the first half with five shots but none came on target. Senior Brooke Beam (Dagsboro, Del.) led the team with two shots.
The Spiders return home to host George Washington on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. at President's Field at River Road.
