Spiders Perform Well At Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team completed its second fall tournament of season at the two-day Elon Invitational.

The Spiders had a strong showing by several players, including junior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio), senior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados), senior Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) who combined to go a perfect 12-0 on the weekend.

Freshman Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) started the fall season with a perfect 5-0 record but suffered her first loss against Davidson's Nicole Krykanov, 6-1, 6-3. Campodonico went 2-1 and is 7-1 to start her Spider career.

In doubles, Richmond went 6-2 in their eight matches. Dunbar and Marshall won both of their matches. The freshmen duo of Marta Buendia (Madrid, Spain) and Justine Bryson (Tortola, Virgin Islands) also went 2-0 with close wins against teams from Davidson Shea/Abele (Davidson), 7-5 and Heiderscheit/Hahn (Davidson), 7-6 (5).

Senior Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) teamed up with Campodonico and earned two doubles wins against teams from Davidson and Elon.

Next up, UR will complete the fall season with a trip to Blacksburg, Virginia to take part in the ITA Atlantic Regionals from Oct. 25-29.
