02/20/2019 | Women's Swimming & Diving
GENEVA, Ohio - Richmond swimming and diving opened up the Atlantic 10 Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Wednesday night at the Spire Institute. Wednesday's opening competition was the shortest day of events for the week, with just the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay on the schedule.Â
The 200 medley relay of Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.), Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.), Morgan Soulia (Wexford, Pa.) and Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:41.68. The Spiders were seven tenths off of the first place finishers, but improved upon their eight seed slating.Â
The second event, the 800 freestyle relay, saw senior Soulia (1:49.44), freshman Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.) (1:51.50), senior Lauren Wallace (Charlotte, N.C.) (1:49.26) and Nicole Piercy (Newport News, Va.) (1:49.09) combined for a time of 7:19.29. The time was fast enough to put the Spiders on the podium in second place.Â
The competition continues tomorrow, starting with the swimming prelims starting at 10 a.m., diving prelims at 1 p.m., and finals slated to begin around 6:30 p.m. A-10's Championship Central will be updated at the conclusion of competition each day.
