DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- After 18 holes and 316 strokes at the Babs Steffens Invitational on Monday, the Richmond Spiders ended the day exactly where they started: fifth place in the 12-team field. The Spiders ended the event, held on the Hills Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., with a 54-hole total of 935, 71 shots over par.Â
On Monday, Annie Collom's three-over 75 was Richmond's low round of the day as the senior finished the event tied for 14th in the field of 71 at 229 (+13).Â
"This trip was a good learning experience for us and something we'll draw from as we prepare for the rest of our season," said coach Ali Wright. "Annie played really well and I'm happy for her to have a strong finish."
The result was the second straight top-15 finish for Collom, who placed eighth at the Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate two weeks ago. She now has five top-20 finishes this season.Â
Richmond's other four golfer - senior Sophie DiPetriollo, sophomore Lizzie Reedy, and freshmen Naomi Mitchell and Emily Ward - all finished tied for 30th with identical scores of 238 (+22). Competing as an individual, sophomore Ally Steffen tied for 62nd at 252 (+36).Â
The Spiders will return to the course at the Hoya Invitational in Poolesville, Md. on April 8-9.Â
