Tierney, DiCenso To Compete At 2019 Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic
06/27/2019 | Women's Lacrosse
University of Richmond women's lacrosse incoming freshmen Arden Tierney and Sophia DiCenso are making names for themselves before they even step on campus.
Â
The duo is set to compete against one another in the 2019 Under Armour All-American Girls North/South Game, taking place on Saturday, June 29, at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins. Tierney will compete for the South, while DiCenso will face off as a member of the North squad.
Â
The 2019 high school graduates are two of just 44 girls selected by INSIDE LACROSSE and a selection committee to compete in the game. Both 2018 and 2019 US Lacrosse All-Americans, Tierney and DiCenso will compete with and against the top high school senior lacrosse talent in the country.
Â
Tierney had a standout high school career, totaling over 300 points and over 300 draw controls in her four seasons. The Port Washington, N.Y., native is a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and a 2019 US Lacrosse Academic All-American while leading the NSCHSGAA League in points in three of her four seasons. Tierney has made her mark nationally as a member of the title-winning 2018 Under Armour Underclass Long Island High Team and 2018 US Lacrosse National Tournament L.I. Metro Team 1. A 2018 ILWomen Young Gun Senior and a two-time Newsday Top 100 Girls Lacrosse Players on Long Island honoree, Tierney will look to make an immediate impact for the Spiders after being ranked #27 in the nation in the Class of 2019 by ILWomen.
Â
DiCenso has already been recognized nationally for her efforts on the field, earning one of the final 18 spots on the US Lacrosse Women's U19 National Team set to compete in the 2019 World Championship in August. A native of Foxboro, Mass., DiCenso wrapped up her high school career as a two-time US Lacrosse All-American, a three-time Hockomock All Star and two-time Hock MVP (the 2019 MVP has yet to be announced). A four-time Sun Chronicle All Star and three-time First Team EMASS honoree, she eclipsed the 240 goal, 100 assist and 150 draw control marks in her career, breaking the school record for goals as a junior and coming in at #22 in the nation in the Class of 2019 by ILWomen.
