Richmond will host Cal State-Northridge and McNeese State in regional rounds
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond will face the Wisconsin Badgers in the semifinals of the 2019 Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper at Barclays Center in Brooklyn N.Y. on November 25th, the event announced Thursday. The Auburn Tigers will face the New Mexico Lobos in the other semifinal. The consolation game and championship will be played on November 26th, with all four games being shown on ESPN networks.
It will be the second all-time meeting between Richmond and Wisconsin and first since the first round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament, when the Badgers defeated the Spiders 76-64. Richmond has a pair of wins against Big Ten teams under Chris Mooney, beating Rutgers in November 2011 and knocking off 10th-ranked Purdue in 2010. Mooney and the Spiders have defeated a power-conference opponent in 13 of his 14 seasons at Richmond.
Richmond's November 26th game will be against either Auburn or New Mexico. The Spiders have never faced the Lobos but have played three games against Auburn. Their last meeting was in the 1984 NCAA Tournament, when Richmond upset the Tigers 72-71 in Charles Barkley's last collegiate game. Fans wishing to purchase Richmond tickets for the games at Barclays Center should call 1-877-SPIDER1.
As part of the tournament's regional rounds, Richmond will host a pair of games at the Robins Center. The Spiders will take on Cal State-Northridge on November 17 and McNeese State on November 22. Tickets for those games will go on sale when Spiders single-game tickets become available in October.
Richmond will return all five of its primary starters in 2019-20 while adding Wagner transfer Blake Francis, a former All-NEC selection, and Nick Sherod, who scored 17.2 points per game in conference play in 2017-18 before a knee injury limited him to six games last season. The Spiders are slated to return 90 percent of their scoring from 2018-19, second most in the Atlantic 10 behind Davidson.
