Men's and Women's Cross Country Announces Schedule For 2019 Season
07/02/2019 | Cross Country
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's and women's cross country programs announced a challenging schedule for the 2019 season Tuesday, including eight dates on the fall calendar.
"We are already looking forward to the fall cross country season as we welcome several freshmen to our programs," director of track & field and cross country Lori Taylor said. "This schedule sets our team up to preview the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships course and the NCAA Southeastern Region Championships course. These competitions provide our athletes with the opportunities needed for their season long development and championship segment in November."
The 2019 season gets underway in traditional fashion as Richmond hosts the Spider Alumni Open August 31 at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. It will be a return to the course where the Spider women won the 2018 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships last fall.
"As a staff we are looking forward to a great fall and excited about the announcement of our fall cross country schedule," men's cross country head coach Steve Taylor said. "We feel these events provide our athletes with great competition and the opportunity to travel to some new locations. Additionally we will travel to the U.S. Cross Country Championships in February and we'll have the chance to compete in the Collegiate Running Association National Championship throughout the year. The combination of these events and locations provides the opportunity, especially for our men's program, to have a year around national championship events on our calendar."
Richmond gets its first look at the course for the 2019 A-10 Championships when it travels to Leesburg, Va., for the George Mason Invitational September 13. The race will be held on the Oatlands Course and will be hosted by the Patriots.
The Spiders head to Charlottesville for the annual Panorama Farms Invitational September 27 and will get a look at the home of the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional during the race. Two trips to the state of North Carolina round out the pre-championship slate of events with the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. (Oct. 5) and the East Carolina Pirate Invitational in Grimesland, N.C. (Oct. 18).
The 2019 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships will be held in Leesburg, Va., at the Oatlands Course Nov. 2 and hosted by George Mason. The Spider women are defending A-10 Champions while the men placed eighth in the race last year.
The NCAA Southeast Regionals will be held Nov. 15 in Charlottesville at Panorama Farms and the 2019 ECAC/IC4A Championships will again be held in the Bronx, N.Y. at Van Cortland Park Nov. 23.
