07/09/2019 | Baseball
RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond Baseball put a pair of Spiders on the Virginia Sports Information Director's All-State team following the 2019 baseball campaign. Fifth-year senior Tyler Plantier (Poway, Calif.) was a First Team selection at third base, with redshirt junior outfielder Anthony Forte (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) earning Second Team All-State honors.
Plantier and Forte were tied for the team-lead with 12 home runs each, creating a formidable 1-2 punch in the Spider lineup. Plantier hit for a .320 average in 50 games, going for extra bases a total of 20 times. He scored 47 runs and drove in 50 while earning a .415 on-base percentage. Plantier was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree at third base earlier this year. Recently, the Richmond graduate signed a professional contract with the Colorado Rockies and is currently playing in minor league baseball with the Boise Hawks in the Class A-Short Season Northwest League.
Forte was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection following this season. He was the only Spider to play in all 54 games, manning center field and led the team in triples (3), home runs (12), RBI (53) and totaled 115 bases. He led the Spiders with 28 extra-base hits to earn a .537 slugging percentage. He stole four bases and drew 35 walks. Forte is playing summer baseball in California with the Arroyo-Seco Saints, where he was named to the California Collegiate League Prospect Game tomorrow night at 10 p.m.
