RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond men's lacrosse head coach Dan Chemotti announced the hiring of 2019 NCAA National Champion Logan Greco to the coaching staff. Greco joins the Spiders as a volunteer assistant and takes over the role held previously by former Spider Mitch Goldberg.
"We are very excited to welcome Logan Greco to the University of Richmond," Chemotti said. "During the search process, Coach Greco made it clear that he was a great fit for Richmond by demonstrating great initiative and professionalism and now in the short time he's been on campus, he has already shown a strong work ethic and mind for the game. Additionally, he just graduated as a National Champion and ended an impressive career as an Honorable Mention All-American four-year starter. We expect him to contribute heavily to all things Richmond Lacrosse."
Greco was a four-year letterwinner and starter at the University of Virginia. He helped guide the Cavaliers to the 2019 NCAA National Championship and a 17-3 overall record. He was part of a defense that held Yale, the nation's No. 2 scoring offensive, to its lowest output of the year (9 goals) in the NCAA title game. He started all 20 games for the Cavaliers in the national title season, picking up 38 ground balls and causing 21 turnovers. He was named a USILA Honorable Mention All-America his senior season.
"I want to thank the entire staff at Virginia for pushing me on the field and supporting me in pursing my coaching endeavors, as well as Coach Chemotti and the Richmond coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to coach and learn at a great place like Richmond," Greco said. "I know the type of program that Coach Chemotti has built here at Richmond and know the goals he has set for the Spiders. I am excited to be a part of the program and look forward to helping the Spiders continue to raise the standard."
Greco finished his Virginia career playing in 63 total games, including 54 starts on defense. He tallied 87 ground balls and caused 49 turnovers in his career. In 2017, he was voted the Most Improved Player on the team by the coaching staff.
Additionally, Greco worked from 2017-19 with the Hooville Lacrosse Program as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator, while coaching both the outdoor and indoor lacrosse teams. He served as an assistant coach for the Legacy Lacrosse program on Long Island in 2018.
Greco graduate from Virginia in 2019 with a degree in Liberal Arts as a dual major in history and foreign affairs.
