Sheridan Named Richmond’s Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient
05/27/2026 | Men's Lacrosse
Washington — University of Richmond midfielder Joe Sheridan represents everything it means to be a Spider: elite in the classroom, dominant on the field, and a respected leader within the program.
For those reasons and more, he was named Richmond's recipient of the Atlantic 10's postgraduate scholarship, given yearly to one student-athlete from each of the 14 A-10 member institutions. Sheridan joins a class made up of six female and eight male student-athletes representing seven different sports, and is the only men's lacrosse player to earn the distinct honor. As a whole, the group posted an average GPA of 3.816, matching the highest mark since the program expanded to 14 recipients.
The Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship provides financial support for student-athletes pursuing advanced academic or professional degrees following graduation, and Sheridan will use the scholarship towards pursuing medical school. To be considered for the scholarship, student-athletes must distinguish themselves in the classroom and in competition while also demonstrating exemplary character and leadership within their communities.
A Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major with a 3.9 GPA, Sheridan helped lead the Spiders to one of the most decorated seasons in program history in 2026. He was named the Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year, earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, and was named an All-American while helping lead Richmond to its best season yet.
Over the last decade, the A-10 Postgraduate Scholarship program has awarded more than $612,000 to 128 former student-athletes. The program currently awards $42,000 annually to graduating student-athletes across the conference to assist with full-time postgraduate or professional study.
The Postgraduate Scholarship is part of the Atlantic 10's continued commitment to academic excellence and student-athlete achievement, joining the Commissioner's Honor Roll and sport-specific All-Academic Teams among the league's premier academic honors.
"I would like to congratulate our outstanding group of student-athletes. Each recipient of our Postgraduate Scholarship has demonstrated excellence both in competition and in the classroom. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting student-athletes, the Atlantic 10 is proud to assist with their postgraduate studies. We look forward to following the future successes of these 14 deserving honorees," said A-10 Commissioner Dan Leibovitz.
