Cross Country Faces Stiff Competition at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Richmond cross country team took the course at the Panorama Farms Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia Friday morning in Earlysville. The men were first up, racing in an 8k race and finishing 12th in a 16-team field. The women finished 14th as a team in a meet that featured four Power 5 opponents.
The men were led by a 25th place finish by Miles Clikeman (North Chesterfield, Va.) with a time of 24:45.7. Peter Borger (Malvern, Pa.) was the second Spider to cross the finish line in 25:15.5, his personal record and good for 47th place. Trey Burleson (Moseley, Va.) added another personal record and finished 84th after with a time of 26:02.6.
James Flanagan (Danville, Calif.) came in 98th, finishing in 26:13.3. Paul Knepple (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and Tanner Crochet (Monmouth, N.J.) were the next two in, finishing in 107th and 147th. Knepple's time was 26:25.3, with Crochet finishing the race in 28:04.8. Patrick Sutphin (Mechanicsville, Va.) was the final Spider to cross the finish line, placing 149th with a time of 28:09.8.
The women had nine competitors take the course Friday morning, competing in their first 6k race of the season. Johanna Lupica (Richmond, Va.) was the first Spider to cross the finishing, coming in 55th with a personal record time of 22:28.3. Senior Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) finished 72nd, running in 22:47.0.
The next four Spiders in were freshmen. Anna George (Montville, N.J.) and Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) finished in 23:01.3, good for 82nd and coming in 87th with a time of 23:08.6, respectively. Rookie Kate Dickow (Lititz, Pa.) added a 95th place finish with a 23:15.5, and Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.) at 24:02.1 in 119th. The final three Spiders to finish were Caitlin O'Hare (Middletown, N.J) at 24:20.5 in 128th, Erika Echternach (Lititz, Pa.) at 140th with 24:50.6 and Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.) at 143rd with 25:35.0.
The Spiders have a week off before returning for the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. on October 5th.
