Richmond Blanks Mary Washington, 7-0

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and swept all six singles matches for a 7-0 win against Mary Washington Saturday afternoon.
The Spiders (1-0) took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. Junior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) and senior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) earned a 6-0 win against Rachel Summers and Lauren Quinn at No. 1 doubles.
Richmond clinched the doubles point with another 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles as senior Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) and freshman Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) took down Rachel Cooper and Olivia Moore.
In the final doubles match, freshmen Justine Bryson (Tortola, Virgin Islands) and Marta Buendia (Madrid, Spain) won 6-2 against Amanda Hagino and Zoe Panizza at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Marshall gave the Spiders a 2-0 lead after winning 6-3, 6-1 against Quinn at No. 3 singles. Buendia won in straight sets against Moore at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Senior Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) clinched the win at No. 4 singles against Hagino, 6-3, 6-3.
Campodonico continued her perfect fall season with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against Cooper. Senior Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) earned a 7-5, 6-0 win against Coleman at No. 2 singles.
In the final singles match, Dunbar won the first set 6-0 against Summers but lost the second set 4-6. In the third set super tiebreaker, Dunbar won a tight battle 11-9 to complete the sweep for the Spiders.
Richmond will compete at the Elon Invitational next weekend from Oct. 4-6.
