Greenville, S.C. – The Richmond Spiders finished play at the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman Golf Club Sunday, shooting a team score of 305 (+17) to finish the 54-hole event at 915 (+51), 13th in the 16-team field.
"One of the challenges of being such a young team is consistency," said coach Calle Nielson of the Spiders lineup, which featured two freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior. "We had some really strong individual rounds this weekend but we also let some holes get away from us. We're going to work on making sure that we stay in every hole and every round moving forward."
Richmond's top individual finisher was sophomore Naomi Mitchell, who tied for 32nd in the field of 90 at 226 (+10), the lowest 54-hole total of her Spiders career. Freshman Muskan Uppal also finished in the top 50 with a score of 229 (+13), tied for 43rd. Uppal shot a career-low 71 (-1) on Sunday to move 17 spots up the leaderboard.
Playing for Richmond for the first time this season, junior Lizzie Reedy was the only Spider to record three rounds in the 70s, shooting 78-78-77 and finishing tied for 55th at 233 (+17).
Richmond will have nearly three weeks off from competition before wrapping up its fall season at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky. from October 18-20.
