RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's lacrosse program announced its biggest signing of the 2020 recruiting class Friday afternoon with a virtual signing day party for eight-year old Dylan Lipton-Lesser of North Chesterfield.
"Working with Team Impact has been amazing," Dylan's mother India Lipton said. "Dylan loves his team and has been inspired to work a little bit harder when things get tough and is teaching them how to do sign language. I think he's already inspiring them to work a little bit harder too! He calls them his "spider team" and I know he can barely wait to see them more and practice with them. I think even the brief meeting we had in person gave him an example of what it's like to be a strong athlete and he can use that right now. During these times when he's challenged even more as a student knowing that his teammates work hard too is an example for him to follow and Team Impact has made a match with the University of Richmond men's lacrosse that's just perfect for him. Go Spiders!"
Dylan, nicknamed the Dragon Slayer, was born 11 weeks premature and has had a complicated medical journey so far but it has not slowed him down. He has undergone 22 brain surgeries in his young life but has taken everything in stride.
"This is a really special day for us at Richmond lacrosse," head coach Dan Chemotti said. "Not only do we get to make Dylan an official member of the team, but he epitomizes everything we stand for in Richmond lacrosse. Dylan is the perfect fit for Richmond lacrosse and we are so excited to make him officially Spider. We cannot wait to have Dylan on the field for games this year."
Team IMPACT has created relationships that have enhanced the lives of thousands of courageous children and touched the lives of tens of thousands of student athletes across the country. The team behind Team IMPACT is honored and inspired to continue to expand the long-standing tradition of athletes contributing to something far greater than themselves. The student athletes in the program extend their commitment to their team, to each other, to provide sick children in their local community a profound sense of belonging, by demonstrating their steadfast support for each and every member of the team through adversity both on and off the field.
Since its inception in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched over 2,000 children with more than 700 colleges and universities in 48 states, positively impacting more than 60,000 student athletes.
