Spiders Host Georgetown In Home Opener On Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will host Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. in the 2020-21 home opener at the Robins Center. The game will be broadcasted live on ESPN plus.
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
Georgetown will begin their 2020-21 campaign against the Spiders after going 5-25 last season. The Hoyas did earn four of their five wins on the road last season. Georgetown has four freshmen added to the squad in 2020. Head coach James Howard enters his fourth season at the helm and sixth overall at Georgetown. Leading rebounder Anita Kelava returns after averaging 7.4 rebounds per game last season.
HISTORY AGAINST GEORGETOWN
This will be the 19th meeting all-time between the two teams with Georgetown leading the all-time series 10-8. In the previous meeting, Richmond earned a road 51-49 win last season as Alex Parson hit two free throws with six seconds left to earn the victory. Kate Klimkiewicz scored 12 points in the win and Aniyah Carpenter added seven points. In the last meeting at the Robins Center, the Hoyas earned a 73-53 win on Nov. 6, 2018, the 2018-19 season opener. Former Spider Jaide Hinds-Clarke lead the team with 11 points.
ROBINS CENTER SUCCESS IN ROUSSELL ERA
Head coach Aaron Roussell was able to establish a strong home atmosphere that saw the Spiders go 7-5 at the Robins Center in his first season. Roussell's Robins Center opener in 2019-20 was a 57-55 win against Florida Atlantic after a game-winning basket from Emma Squires. The Spiders also earned four A-10 wins at home, including a perfect 2-0 record in overtime against St. Bonaventure (63-59 OT) and Duquesne (67-64 OT). Roussell helped Richmond snap a three-year losing streak in home openers last season. The Spiders are 6-4 in their last 10 home openers dating back to the 2010-11 season.
KLIMKIEWICZ LEADS THE WAY AGAINST THE HOKIES
Junior Kate Klimkiewicz led the team with 14 points and was 4-for-5 from the free throw line against Virginia Tech. Klimkiewicz tied her career-high with four steals and grabbed four rebounds. Klimkiewicz went 5-for-16 from the field.
SPIDERS GET TO THE FREE THROW LINE
The Spiders finished the game against Virginia Tech going 13-for-17 at the free throw line. Richmond shot 76.5 percent and only missed four free throws against the Hokies. Klimkiewicz was 4-for-5, Budnik was 3-for-3, Grace Townsend was 3-for-4, Holt was 2-for-4, and Chapman was 1-for-1. Most of the damage came in the final two quarters as Richmond was more aggressive getting to the free throw line.
FRESHMEN FIVE MAKES STRONG DEBUT
The Spiders five freshmen all made their debuts in the road loss at Virginia Tech. Freshman Siobhan Ryan earned her first collegiate start and scored nine points. Freshman Addie Budnik scored 12 points off the bench with two blocks and three rebounds. Freshman Grace Townsend had three points all off free throws and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Freshman Kylee Lewandowski played four minutes and freshman Maya Ettle played in the final minute.
