Women’s Track & Field Finishes Strong at PSU National Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team collected six top-six finishes and multiple personal best times at the Penn State National Open Saturday at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
In the mile, junior Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) and freshman Anna George (Montville, N.J.) finished in first and third places, respectively. Robelen posted a season best time of 4:56.61 while George crossed the finish line with a lifetime best time of 4:57.08.
Sophomore Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.) turned in a personal best time of 2:55.73 to finish third in the 1,000-meter run.
In the invitational mile competition, senior Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) placed second with a season-best 4:53.42.
Freshman Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) finish sixth in the invitational 3,000-meter race and erased 17 seconds off her personal best to turn in a time of 9:52.13.
Sophomore Tamar Accius (Jacksonville, Fla.) lead wire to wire in the 300-meter dash to win the third heat with the fifth-best time overall at 40.23. Freshman Kamryn Ross (Richmond, Va.) took second in the fourth heat, posting a time of 40.82.
Freshman Gabrielle Beneducci (Hampton, N.J.) collected a personal record time of 59.00 in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth in the fifth heat.
Freshman Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.) collected fifth in the first heat of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.68.
In the 200-meter dash, senior Haley Berkeley (Richmond, Va.) took second in the sixth heat with a time of 25.93.
Sophomore Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.) took second in the third heat of the 400-meter dash, finishing in 56.83.
In her first 800-meter run competition of the season, senior Maria Acosta (Maywood, N.J.) finished fourth in the first heat with a time of 2:09.
Wrapping up the day, Spider quartet of Accius, Acosta, Ross and Helbling finished third in the 4x400-meter relay, working together to post a time of 3:50.70.
The Spiders return to action Friday and Saturday in the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
