Ross Captures School Record at Camel City Invitational

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The University of Richmond track and field team had multiple standout performances Friday at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
Leading the way, freshman Kamryn Ross (Richmond, Va.) set a new UR program record in the 60-meter hurdles, turning in a personal best time of 8.72 in the prelims to advance to the finals. She broke Ashley Bell's 2003 mark of 8.87. Ross finished sixth in the finals with a time of 9.82.
Senior Maria Acosta (Maywood, N.J.) finished third and was the top collegiate finisher in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.10. Freshman Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.) and sophomore Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.) finished eighth and tenth, respectively, in the 800-meter run and collected ECAC qualifying marks. McAndrew crossed the finish line at 2:14.74 as Smither posted a time of 2:15.89.
In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Caitlin O'Hare (Middleton, N.J.) and senior Erika Echternach (Lititz, Pa.) finished in ninth- and tenth-place in the second section. O'Hare turned in a time of 18:57.26 while Echternach posted a time of 19:12.17.
Freshman Kayla O'Connell (Marshfield, Mass.) won the third section and was second overall in the 600-meters dash with a personal best time of 1:39.75. Fellow freshman Maddie Orr (Rumson, N.J.) turned in the third-best time in the third section, crossing the finish line at 1:44.23.
Sophomore Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.) finished ninth in the 200-meters with a time of 25.77 while fellow sophomore Tamar Accius (Jacksonville, Fla.) came in 11th-place (25.77).
In the 3,000-meters, junior Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) won the second section with a personal best time of 9:58.21. Senior Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) came in third in the same section, also posting a personal best time (10:01.99).
Sophomore Kayla Woods (Wilmington, Del.) took third in the long jump with a mark of 5.65 meters, while sophomore Amaya Jackson (Richmond, Va.) finished in ninth-place (5.34m) and freshman Morgan Crocker (Richmond, Va.) took 15th (5.14m).
The Spiders return to the JDL Fast Track to wrap up the Camel City Invitational on Saturday.
