03/23/2020 | Men's Lacrosse
RICHMOND, Va. – For the third-straight season, the University of Richmond men's lacrosse program finished the season ranked in the top 20 as the Spiders checked in No. 20 overall in the final Maverick Inside Lacrosse Poll Monday. The 2020 season was cut short after seven games for the Spiders due to COVID-19.
The Spiders finished the shortened season 4-3 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference play. Richmond was nationally ranked from the second week of the season on after falling to No. 4 Maryland in double overtime in the season opener. The Spiders also played nationally ranked Notre Dame and Duke on the road in the first seven games of the season.
Richmond won its final two games of the year on the road, winning at Mount St. Mary's and opening league play with a victory at VMI. The win over the Keydets improved the Spiders to 30-5 all-time in SoCon play in program history. Richmond has won back-to-back SoCon Tournament titles and has been in the conference tournament championship game in every year of the program's existence dating back to 2014.
Under the direction of head coach Dan Chemotti, the Spiders have burst on to the national scene in just its seventh-year of existence. Richmond finished last season ranked No. 18 in the country and was No. 19 in 2018 to end the year.
