#12 Women’s Lacrosse Extends Winning Streak with 22-9 Win Over ODU

NORFOLK, Va.- The No. 12 University of Richmond women's lacrosse team was tested early, but used a big offensive second half to extend their winning streak to seven with a 22-9 victory over Old Dominion Saturday at L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Richmond's (7-0) eight scorers were paced by redshirt junior Sam Geiersbach (West Babylon, N.Y.) who tallied a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists. Sophomore Marina Miller (Wexford, Pa.) posted a career-high four goals to match a season-high four points.
Junior Nicole Concannon (Syosset, N.Y) collected her second hat trick as a Spider while senior Julia Schmuckler (New Vernon, N.J.) tallied her first hat trick of the season.
Freshman Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.) tallied five points on three assists and two goals while collecting a game-high and matched a season-high 11 draw controls while fellow freshman Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y.) scored two goals and had a career-high nine draw controls. Sophomore Jillian Becker (Stony Brook, N.Y.) also matched a career-high with two goals.
Freshman Sophia DiCenso (Foxboro, Mass.) tallied a goal, two ground balls and two draw controls to wrap up the Spiders offense.
The first half was back and forth affair, but the Spiders held the advantage in shots (29-12), draw controls (12-4) and ground balls (10-6) to take an 8-7 lead into halftime.
After ODU scored the first goal in the second half, Richmond scored 10-straight unanswered goals, paced by four goals by Geiersbach and three of Miller's four goals.
ODU would score their ninth goal at 11:28 in the second half, converting a free position attempt. Then the Spiders scored the final four goals of the contest, including back-to-back goals by Becker.
Senior goalie Megan Gianforte (Brielle, N.J.) moved to 7-0 on the season, allowing nine goals but tallied two saves and three ground balls. Freshman goalies Daniela Stelcer (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Emilie Bloyer (Eden Prairie, N.Y.) both saw action late in the second half.
The Spiders extended their advantage in shots (57-15), ground balls (18-9) and matched a team record in draw controls (25-7), as well as only committing four turnovers.
The Spiders close out the non-conference portion of their schedule against Villanova Saturday March 14. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. at Robins Stadium.
