03/08/2020 | General, Men's Basketball, Spider Athletic Fund
A recap of another unbeaten week and a celebration for a record-breaking regular season is on tap for this Monday evening's edition of Spider Talk with Coach Chris Mooney at Glory Days Grill, 10466 Ridgefield Parkway in the Gleneagles Shopping Center, from 5:30-6:30 pm. Junior guard Jacob Gilyard and redshirt junior forward Grant Golden will be this week's player guests.
Spider Talk, hosted by "Voice of the Spiders" Bob Black, can be heard live on ESPN Richmond's 99.5 & 102.7 FM and 950 AM, as well as online at RichmondSpiders.com, espnrichmond.com, and on the TuneIn app. An audio archive of each week's show is available on the SpiderTV page and in the Audio Vault at espnrichmond.com. Fans in attendance will be able to hear the live program directly on Glory Days Grill's table top audio boxes by tuning to Channel 3.
Gilyard leads the nation in steals per game (3.2) and total steals (99), and is coming of a career-high tying 10 assists and six steals, one shy of his career high, in Friday's victory at Duquesne. He is the only player in the nation averaging more than three steals per game. Gilyard, the Spiders' all-time steals leader with 276, owns the top three single season steals records, including 99 this year, the highest mark in school history. He is also third all-time at Richmond with 468 assists, averaging 5.7 per game this season. He is averaging 12.7 points per game.
Golden is 15th on the Spiders' career scoring list, now with 1572 points. He stuffed the stat sheet in the win at Duquesne, with 13 points, seven rebounds and a career-high tying eight assists. He also blocked a shot, the 100th of his career. Golden is averaging 13.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He has been in double-figures in 23 games including the past eight.
The Spiders finished the regular season with four straight wins and nine victories in the past 10 games, leaving their record at 24-7 overall and 14-4 in the Atlantic 10, good for sole possession of second place. The 24 wins equals the mark set by the 2010 and 2011 NCAA teams for most regular season wins, and the 13 conference triumphs sets the program record for league victories.
Fans, alums and corporate partners are encouraged to attend the live show at the West End Glory Days Grill location, which has hosted large crowds for each week's live radio program. Listeners and fans can interact during the show, and anytime, by submitting questions and comments online.
