RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond junior Brooke Fazio has been named to the 2020 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Track & Field All-America team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The Basking Ridge, N.J. native was set to race in the 800-meter prelims of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship in Albuquerque, N.M., March 13 before the NCAA canceled all events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fazio's 800-meter flat track time of 2:06.39 March 1 at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship was the 10th-best time in the nation. Her mark is also an A-10 Meet record and a University of Rhode Island Mackal Field House record.
Fazio is the first Spider to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championship and earn All-America status since Jessica Young, who qualified and placed ninth in the 60-meter dash in 2007.
Fazio is no stranger to competing in the NCAA Championship, qualifying in the outdoor competition in the 800-meters in 2018 and 2019. As a sophomore in 2019, Fazio turned in a time of 2:05.00 in the first round of prelims finishing third before posting a time of 2:08.19 in the NCAA Quarter Final, finishing 17th.
The USTFCCCA Executive Committee adjusted the All-America selection criteria due to the canceled NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. Individuals and relay members that were selected to the championship event will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor season.
