COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Graduated seniors Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.) and Sydney Weiskopf (Clifton Park, N.Y.) have earned the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American honors for their performances in the classroom and the pool this season. The award recognizes student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.
Seven Atlantic 10 programs were represented on the list. The Spiders two representatives were tied for second-most, behind a trio from Fordham. Joining the Spiders with Scholar All-American honorees was Davidson, Duquesne, George Mason, George Washington, and Massachusetts.
Gouger, a four-time champion in the 100 and 200 backstroke, put together another tremendous season in her final campaign. She turned in her top times of the season during the Atlantic 10 Championships meet, medaling in three relay races, finishing 12th in the 50-yard freestyle. She became one of just three student-athletes in A-10 history to win two events in all four years of competition, joining two other Spiders, Lauren Beaudreau and Mary Adams. Gouger, a marketing major, is also a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award
Weiskopf, a philosophy and psychology major, qualified for NCAA Zones for the third-consecutive season in her final year. During her senior campaign, she scored team highs on both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events both at the tri-meet with Virginia Tech and Queens University. At the Atlantic 10 Championships, Weiskopf was the highest finishing Spider in the 3-meter event, finishing in the top 10.
