09/02/2020 | Football
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond redshirt junior defensive lineman Kobie Turner (Clifton, Va.) and senior linebacker Tyler Dressler (Covington, Va.) were named Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Third Team Wednesday afternoon. The Spiders are one of just three Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) teams that have multiple honorees on the team, joining James Madison and Villanova.
Turner was named First Team Preseason All-America by HERO Sports this summer. He burst onto the scene last fall in his first full year as a starter, earning Third Team All-CAA honors. He led all CAA defensive lineman in tackles with 71 on the year, including a team-high 14.5 tackles for loss. He also added a career-high 7.0 sacks while starting all 12 games for the Spiders.
Dressler was a First Team All-CAA honor last season, becoming the first Spider linebacker to earn First Team honors since Omar Howard in 2016. He led the team with 104 tackles, ranking second in the CAA despite missing a game due to an injury. He led the CAA at 9.5 tackles per game, ranking 25th in the nation. He posted a career-high 20 tackles in the Spiders' win at nationally ranked Maine, the most tackles in a game by any player in the FCS in 2019.
Note: The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) postponed the 2020 fall conference competition and will make a strong commitment to conducting a football season during the Spring of 2021, and will continue to analyze this scenario as more information becomes available and conditions continue to evolve.
