Spiders Continue Home Slate With Rhode Island Friday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team continues their home stand with a matchup against Rhode Island on Friday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m. at the Robins Center. ABOUT RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island enters with a 3-5 overall record but is 3-2 against A-10 opponents. The Rams are 3-1 in their last four games with wins against La Salle (72-69), UMass (48-47) and Davidson (62-44). Their only two losses in A-10 play are against UMass (79-69) and Davidson (62-44). Emmanuelle Tahane leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and in rebounding at 8.6 boards per game. Johanna Muzet is second in scoring at 11.6 points per game. Marta Vargas leads the team with 13 made three-pointers.
HISTORY AGAINST RHODY
This will be the 25th meeting all-time between the two teams with Richmond holding a 19-5 advantage. The Rams have won the last two meetings, including an overtime thriller last season 76-70 on Jan. 7, 2020. Claire Holt had 23 points off 9-for-18 shooting and Kate Klimkiewicz finished with 16 points. Rhode Island also won the last meeting at the Robins Center on Jan. 5, 2019 in a 66-60 road win. Nicole Jorgensen led the Rams with 26 points and eight rebounds. Jaide Hinds-Clarke had a double-double in the loss with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
CHAPMAN POSTS FOURTH CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Sophomore forward Elaina Chapman recorded her fourth career double-double and second this season with 10 points, 10 rebounds against George Washington. Chapman pulled down five offensive rebounds against GW. She is having a solid sophomore season leading the team in rebounding at 7.8 boards per game. Chapman has pulled down five or more rebounds in eight of nine games, including a new career-high 14 rebounds against Navy. Chapman posted her third career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds against Howard.
GRACE TOWNSEND GIVING SPIDERS A SPARK OFF THE BENCH
Freshman Grace Townsend finished with three points, five assists and tied her season high with eight rebounds against George Washington. Townsend has dished out 16 assists in her last three games (5.3 per game) to just five turnovers. Townsend scored the eventual game-winning layup on the road against St. Bonaventure and had a season-high seven assists in the road win at Duquesne.
KLIMKIEWICZ RECORDS FIRST CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Junior Kate Klimkiewicz finished with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to post her first career double-double against George Washington on Jan. 13. Klimkiewicz previous career-high was nine rebounds. Klimkiewicz is second on the team at 7.0 rebounds per game and leads the team in scoring at 14.1. She was 6-for-13 from the field against GW and made two three-pointers.
SPIDERS PICK UP THIRD-STRAIGHT WIN, EDGE GW
The University of Richmond women's basketball team remained undefeated in 2021 with a defensive win, 47-42, against George Washington on Jan. 13. The Spiders have won three-straight games, all against Atlantic 10 opponents.
Richmond held George Washington to just 30.0 percent from the field and 2-for-15 from the three-point line. UR crashed the boards outrebounding GW, 51-32, including 18 offensive rebounds.
