Spiders Bring Win Streak On The Road At GW Friday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will be going for its third win in a row when they face George Washington in a rematch from earlier this season on Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN plus.
ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington is 4-10 overall and 1-7 in their last eight Atlantic 10 games. The Colonials only win was against George Mason 67-47 on Jan. 17. GW had been on the road for two weeks and is 1-9 in road games this season. George Washington fell at VCU, 67-60, and held a 10-point lead before falling short. Freshman Ali Brigham scored a career-high 26 points off 12-for-15 shooting and had four rebounds. Brigham leads the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game and Neila Luma is second at 9.6 points per game. Jasmine Whitney leads the A-10 in steals with 37.
HISTORY AGAINST GW
This will be the 46th all-time meeting between the two teams with George Washington holding a 28-17 record. The Spiders have won the last two meetings, including a 47-42 win on Jan. 13. UR held off George Washington in the fourth quarter after being outscored 13-6 by the Colonials. Kate Klimkiewicz led the team with 14 points and Addie Budnik added 12 points. Elaina Chapman posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Neila Luma had 12 points for GW and Ali Brigham added 10 points. Richmond limited GW to 2-for-15 from the three-point line.
SEASON HIGH 86 POINTS IN WIN AGAINST GEORGE MASON
For the second time this season, Richmond has scored 80-plus points after scoring 86 in a win against George Mason on Jan. 26. Earlier in the season, UR scored 85 in a win against Gardner-Webb. The 86 points is the most scored by Richmond since scoring 100 points in a win against Savannah State in 2017. The Spiders started fast with a 21-8 first quarter lead against the Patriots.
THIRD QUARTER PROVES TO BE BEST QUARTER FOR SPIDERS
Richmond is 8-1 this season when they hold a lead after three quarters and have outscored opponents 204-169 (+35) in the third in 12 games. In the road win against VCU, UR outscored VCU, 23-11, after trailing by nine at halftime. In the home win against George Mason, the Spiders outscored George Mason, 25-15, in a wire-to-wire win. Richmond has only been outscored in the third quarter three times in 12 games.
CHAPMAN SCORES CAREER-HIGH AGAINST GEORGE MASON
Sophomore Elaina Chapman set the tone early against George Mason scoring 10 of her career-high 18 points in the first quarter. Chapman was 7-for-11 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. Chapman's previous career high was 14 points against Duquesne last season. The Richmond native is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game. She has started all 12 games for the Spiders.
BENCH MOB LEADS SPIDERS WITH SEASON-HIGH 42 POINTS
Richmond showed off its depth with a season-high 42 points off the bench as freshman Maya Ettle scored a career-high 11 points off a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from downtown. Classmate Grace Townsend added eight points and junior Aniyah Carpenter scored seven points. Freshman Siobhan Ryan and sophomore Celia Satter each had five points apiece. The Spiders bench outscored George Mason, 42-23, in the win.
