Richmond Ends Road Trip With Duquesne Matchup On Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will look for the road trip sweep when they visit Duquesne on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN plus.
RICHMOND SNAPS TWO-GAME LOSING STREAK
The University of Richmond women's basketball team ended its two-game losing streak with a close 59-58 road win at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 8. The Spiders improved to 4-3 and 1-1 in league play.
Three players finished in double figures with junior Kate Klimkiewicz leading the way with 18 points and tied her career high with nine rebounds. Freshman Addie Budnik added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Junior Claire Holt finished with 12 points and was 2-for-5 from downtown.
Richmond scored 34 points in the paint and built a 10-point lead after three quarters but St. Bonaventure came roaring back. The Bonnies tied the game at 54-54 with two minutes remaining but two key buckets from freshman Siobhan Ryan and the go-ahead layup from Grace Townsend sealed the win. UR has won six in a row against St. Bonaventure.
ABOUT DUQUESNE
Duquesne is 2-5 and 1-2 in A-10 games after falling at home 68-63 in overtime against VCU on Jan. 8. The Dukes sent the game into overtime with a late three-pointer but were outscored 12-7 in the extra period. Freshman Tess Myers led the team in scoring with 20 points off the bench and was 6-for-11 from the three-point line. Amaya Hamilton had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Duquesne has lost four games in a row and their only A-10 win was against St. Bonaventure, 71-63, on Dec. 11. Amanda Kalin leads the team in scoring at 15.5 points per game. Laia Sole is second in scoring at 9.3 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 boards per game.
HISTORY AGAINST DUQUESNE
Richmond holds a 13-12 record in the all-time series against Duquesne. Last season, the Spiders earned a 67-64 overtime win against the Dukes on Feb. 12, 2020 at the Robins Center. Aniyah Carpenter scored a career-high 21 points and Elaina Chapman added 14 points in the win. Richmond erased an 11-point lead after one quarter against the Dukes thanks to a strong third quarter. The Spiders held Duquesne to just 23.8 percent (5-for-21) from the three-point line. UR snapped an eight-game losing streak to Duquesne and hasn't won in Pittsburgh since Jan. 19, 2011.
VETERANS HOLT & KLIMKIEWICZ CONTINUE TO BE CONSISTENT
Juniors Claire Holt and Kate Klimkiewicz continue to lead the team in scoring. Klimkiewicz is averaging 14.1 points per game and Holt is at 12.6 points per game. Klimkiewicz finished with a team-high 18 points in a road win at St. Bonaventure and Holt added 12 points, including 2-for-5 from the three-point line. Holt has scored in double-figures in all five games she has played in. Klimkiewicz has scored in double-figures in six of the seven games.
