Nash Scores in Road Victory Over No. 21 UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Richmond field hockey team defeated No. 21 Massachusetts, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Atlantic 10 play at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
With the win, the Spiders move to 5-10 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Minutewomen fall to 10-5 on the year and 3-2 in league.
Senior Addie Nash (Midlothian, Va.) put a backhanded shot past the UMass goalkeeper at the 16:32 mark to give the Spiders the lead. Junior Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, NY) tallied the assist as she drove into the circle before feeding Nash.
In the 60-minute defensive battle, the Spiders were able to withstand the offensive pressure by UMass. UR goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) tallied eight saves while sophomores Kaitlyn Csensits (Emmaus, Pa.) and Olivia De Cain (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) each collected defensive saves in the contest.
With less than five minutes left in the game, UMass pulled their goalkeeper to have another offensive player on the field. The Spider defense withstood the pressure as Latta tallied two saves and Csensits collected her defensive save as UMass fired off five shots on three penalty corners.
UMass had the upper hand in shots (17-10) and shots on goal (10-5) while earning more penalty corners (6-3) in the contest.
Richmond is back in action Sunday, October 24 to host Wake Forest at Crenshaw Field for an 11 a.m. contest on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the game, the Spiders will recognize seniors Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands), Olivia Frazier. (Cary, N.C.), Jess Hendry (Wilton, Conn.), and Nash.
