Latta Collects Career-High 12 Saves Against No. 17 Wake Forest

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) collected a career-high 12 saves in the Spiders 4-1 loss to No. 17 Wake Forest Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
The Spiders fall to 5-11 on the season while the Demon Deacons improve to 7-8.
Wake Forest took a 2-0 lead into halftime, taking 12 shots and collecting three penalty corners in the first 30 minutes.
Sophomore Madi Hyatt (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored 31 seconds into the third quarter to cut into the Demon Deacons lead, 2-1. Junior Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) collected the ball and drove to the right side of the circle before sending a pass to Hyatt in front of the goal.
Wake Forest quickly answered and then added a fourth goal in the 52nd minute.
Latta had six saves in the second quarter, added five more in the third before tallying two more in the final 15 minutes of the game. Latta made a huge save in the second quarter, stopping a Demon Deacon penalty shot. On the season, Latta has made 91 saves for Richmond for a .728 save percentage.
Sophomore Cori Nichols (Powhatan, Va.) also tallied a defensive save at the 37:01 mark in the game, getting her stick high in the air to knock down a high shot off a rebound.
Richmond closes out their home schedule Friday, Oct. 29, hosting VCU in Atlantic 10 action. The contest is set to start at 6 PM at Crenshaw Field and will air on ESPN+.
