Swim and Dive Victorious On The Final Day of the Richmond Duals

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond swim and dive team closed the Richmond Duals with a second team victory, this time over the visiting George Mason Patriots Saturday morning. The Spiders outscored George Mason 159-125. The Spiders got seven first-place finishes in the meet. The depth of the Spider team was evident as Richmond scored points finishing second or third 16 times to help secure the victory.
Alexa Connors (Kingston, Mass) got the scoring started, taking first in the 1650 free at17:29.25. She was followed by freshman Laura Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) who took second at 17:46.10.
The 400 medley relay team of Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.), Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.), Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) and Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.) earned a second place finish at 3:54.77.
It was Megan Carson (Apex, N.C.) taking first in the next event. The sophomore finished the 200 freestyle at 1:55.83, followed by Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) at 1:56.24. Richmond took second and third in the 100 backstroke, led by efforts from Mattie Williams (Lake George, N.Y.) (59.50) and Carstyn Klosterman (Winston-Salem, N.C.) (1:00.99). Greene and Christina Levins (Moorestown, N.J.) finished second and third in the 200 fly, Greene at 1:05.46 and Levins at 1:07.51. O'Shaughnessy added a second-place finish in the 200 fly at 2:09.55.
Richmond took the podium in the 50 freestyle, Fuller had a top time at 23.50, followed closely by Medlin at 24.51 and Yeomans at 24.57. Klosterman notched a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke at 2:09.11. Purcell and Greene had the 1-2 punch in the 200 breaststroke, Purcell at the top in 2:20.73, and Greene at 2:20.78.
Medlin added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle at 53.05, followed closely by Lucy Yeomans (Athens, Ga.) (53.16). Connors and Carson took the top times in the 500 freestyle at 5:07.80 and 5:16.15. Fuller and O'Shaughnessy finished first and second in the 100 butterfly, at 57.25 and 57.90.
Purcell closed out the swimming with a first-place finish in the 400 individual medley, earning a time of 4:29.23.
In the diving competition, Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) had the top score of 200.35 in the 1-meter event, and the top score of 184.55 in the 3-meter competition.
The Spiders are back in action on November sixth when they head to Charlotte for a dual meet with Queens University.
