Spiders Wrap Up Fall Season With 12th-Place Finish at Grandover Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Richmond Spiders men's golf team concluded its fall season Sunday, finishing 12th in the 15-team Grandover Collegiate. Richmond combined for a team score of 305 (+17) in Round 3, identical to its Round 1 score and leaving the Spiders position on the leaderboard unchanged. Richmond finished the 54-hole event 37 strokes over par with a team score of 901.Â
Freshman Cole Ekert was Richmond's top finisher, tying for 43rd on the individual leaderboard at 223 (+7). Ekert shot 79 (+7) Sunday after playing the first two rounds in even par Saturday.Â
Junior Ben Cooper tied for 54th in the field of 101 individuals after shooting 75 (+3) Sunday to finish the event at 226 (+10). He was one shot in front of junior Lou Baker, who also shot 75 (+3) Sunday and finished in a tie for 60th at 227 (+11).
Freshman Patrick Isztwan tied for 67th at 230 (+14) and sophomore Garrett Clark tied for 67th at 231 (+15).Â
A pair of Spiders seniors competed as individuals at the event. Michael Childress shot his second-straight 75 (+3) Sunday to finish tied for 43rd at 223 (+7). Carter Cook followed his two rounds of 75 (+3) Saturday with a 76 (+4) and finished at 226 (+10), tied for 54th place.Â
Sunday marked the final round of Richmond's four-event fall season, which opened with a win at the 12-team VCU Shootout in September.

"We're going to work on becoming a more consistent team," said coach Adam Decker on the team's focus heading into its offseason. "Lately we've been making more big numbers than usual, so we'll dig into the stats and see if anything jumps out. I think our course management needs some attention and we need to do a better job on par-5 scoring."Â
