Richmond Falls to Georgetown in Final Regular Season Game
10/31/2021 | Field Hockey
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond field hockey team closed out the 2021 regular season with a 3-1 loss to Georgetown University Sunday afternoon at Cooper Field. The Spiders fall to 5-13 on the season, while the Hoyas move to 10-8 for the year.
After the Hoyas tallied a goal in the third minute of the game, the Spiders tied it up in the 19th minute. Junior Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) first cut through the middle of the field, feeding sophomore Madi Hyatt (Fredericksburg, Va.) for the shot on goal. Hyatt's shot took a hard bounce off of the Hoya keeper, straight to Frank, who was following the play. Frank quickly settled the ball and fired off a backhanded shot for the score and her sixth goal of the season.
Georgetown answered just two minutes later in the second quarter and added a third goal in the 52nd minute to seal the victory.
The Hoyas had the upper hand in shots, 15-11, but the squads were even with seven shots on goal. Georgetown also tallied nine penalty corners to Richmond's five in the contest.
Spider goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made four saves, including stopping a Hoya penalty stroke in the fourth quarter. Latta has 98 saves on the season.
Richmond opens postseason action Friday at 11 a.m. in the first Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship semifinal against top-seeded and host Saint Joseph's at Ellen Ryan Field. The game will be available to stream on ESPN-Plus.
