Mancuso Named CAA Offensive Player of the Week
11/15/2021 | Football
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond graduate quarterback Joe Mancuso (Blairsville, Ga.) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week for his Senior Day performance leading the Spiders to their third-straight victory in a dominant 51-27 win over Delaware Saturday. Mancuso becomes the first Spider to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors this year and the second-straight Spider to earn a weekly honor (Darius Reynolds, Defensive Player of the Week).
Mancuso celebrated his final game at Robins Stadium in impressive fashion, accounting for 295 total yards of offense and five total touchdowns. Mancuso connected on 13-of-21 for 179 yards and three scores through the air. He was just as productive on the ground, rushing for a season-high 116 yards on 14 carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry, while scoring a pair of touchdowns. It marks the second-most rushing yards in a game in his career and the Spiders' first 100-yard rusher since he posted 117 against Yale in 2019.
With his performance, Mancuso moved into fifth place all-time in program history in total offense, eclipsing the 7,000-yard mark for his career. He now sits alone in fifth with 7,046 total yards of offense in his career, passing for 5,508 yards and rushing for 1,538 yards in his career. He is the only player in program history to have pass for at least 5,500 yards while rushing for over 1,500 yards in a career.
Mancuso ranks fifth all-time in program history with 39 passing touchdowns, passing Greg Lily (1990-93) and Charlie Richards (1968-70) Saturday. He has accounted for 58 touchdowns in his career, adding 19 touchdowns on the ground. He is tied fourth all-time for total touchdowns among quarterbacks at 58 with Michael Strauss and only trails Kyle Lauletta (85), Eric Ward (83) and Stacy Tutt (60).
Mancuso and the Spiders close out the regular season with The Capital Cup presented by C&F Bank this Saturday in Williamsburg. The South's Oldest Rivalry will be played for the 132nd time this weekend and the two teams are deadlocked at 63-63-5 all-time in the series.
