Richmond Ready For National TV Matinee Against Saint Joseph’s Thursday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team has two home games remaining and will host Saint Joseph's on NBC Sports Network Thursday, Feb. 18 at Noon inside the Robins Center.

The Richmond women's basketball team will promote Social Justice for their game against St. Joseph's on Thursday. The Spiders United for Change campaign is celebrating Richmond organizations that encourage participation and empowerment in the social justice landscape.
RICHMOND HOSTS SAINT JOSEPH'S ON NBC SPORTS NETWORK
The Spiders will welcome Saint Joseph's to the Robins Center on Thursday, Feb. 18 with tip-off at Noon. The contest will be televised nationally on the NBS Sports Network. Jason Knapp (play by play) and Julianne Viani-Braen (analyst) will be the announcers.
SPIDERS DROP ROAD GAME AT SAINT LOUIS
The University of Richmond women's basketball team got within three points twice in the fourth quarter but the Billikens hit their free throws down the stretch to hold on to a 62-57 win. With the road loss, UR fell a half game behind Saint Louis in the A-10 standings.
Freshman Addie Budnik led the team with 21 points off 8-for-14 shooting and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds with three blocks. Junior Emma Squires added 12 points off the bench, scoring all 12 points in the second quarter. Freshman Grace Townsend scored eight points and dished out four assists.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S
Saint Joseph's is 5-7 overall and holds a 3-7 Atlantic 10 record having lost six in a row. In their two most recent games, the Hawks lost on the road at Fordham (L, 51-36) and at Davidson (L, 71-64). Saint Joseph's is 1-4 in road games this season. Kaliah Henderson leads the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game and finished with 17 points in the loss at Davidson. Katie Jekot is second in scoring at 9.3 points per game and scored a team-high 21 points at Davidson. Jekot leads the team in assists with 47.
HISTORY AGAINST SAINT JOSEPH'S
This will be the 24th all-time meeting between the two teams with Saint Joseph's leading the all-time series with a 16-7 record. In the last four meetings, Richmond is 2-2 with both wins coming at the Robins Center. Last season, the Hawks picked up a 67-56 home win against the Spiders on Jan. 4, 2020 in Coach Roussell's A-10 debut. Former Spider Jaide Hinds-Clarke led the team with 18 points. Katie Jekot led Saint Joseph's with 17 points and six assists. Katie Mayock added 11 points off the bench. In the last meeting at the Robins Center, UR earned a 46-45 defensive win on Jan. 23, 2019. Hinds-Clarke posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
REBOUNDING BATTLE KEY TO SPIDER SUCCESS
Richmond lost its first two Atlantic 10 road games last weekend due in part to losing the rebounding battle and giving up second chance points. The Spiders are 8-0 when they win the rebounding battle and a perfect 7-0 in A-10 play. All four A-10 losses have been when they got outrebounded. Sophomore Elaina Chapman leads the team in rebounding at 7.2 boards per game and Klimkiewicz is second at 6.2 boards per game. Freshman Addie Budnik is third at 5.2 rebounds per game.
POINT GUARD PLAY CONTINUES TO PICK UP
Senior point guard Alex Parson and freshman point guard Grace Townsend have been consistent in their play the last couple of games. Parson is averaging 8.0 points per game and has dished out seven assists to just six turnovers in the last four games. Townsend has been a spark off the bench with 17 assists to just five turnovers in the last four games. Townsend had seven assists to zero turnovers in a road win at George Mason. Townsend had four assists and eight points at Saint Louis.
